  • NEW STUMBLERS AND VISITORS  June 17, 2006 John Brown of Winchester ran with the Stumblers for his first time.  John is with Delta Gas in Winchester and we expect to see him back as a regular.  Jerry McDonald, also of Winchester, made a cameo appearance.  Jerry became a member of the 500 Club in 1987 and has continued to run, but his schedule doesn't bring him out to run with the Stumblers very often.  We were glad to have him out and hope he can rearrange his running schedule to come back out a little more often.  Barry and Judy Collins have their daughter, Beth, son-in-law Chris Hickey and their two daughters, Amanda and Julia, visiting with them and the whole family came out to the clubhouse.  Granddaughter Amanda even ran her first Stumbler mile, thus continuing a family tradition.  Way to go Amanda!

  • NEW STUMBLERS  June 10, 2006  Welcome to Joey and Aimee Mau who drove all the way from Wilmore to join us.  We hope to see them again soon.  Jim Gallagher got both his daughters out to run with him, Colleen and Kathleen are both quite good runners and may have humbled their old dad.

  • LETTERS OF THANKS  May 31, 2006  The Stumblers participation in the county wide litter pickup in March, and subsequent contribution of the litter bounty to the Victim's Advocacy Division of the Clark County Attorney's Office, was noticed and appreciated.  Clark County Attorney Gardner Wagers wrote a personal letter of thanks to the Stumblers and he and Victim's Advocate Julie Briscoe wrote a letter to the editor that was published in the Winchester Sun.  Click here to read the letter and here to read the letter to the editor.  We enjoy running the rural roads of Clark County and the litter pickup is one of the things we do each year to say Thank You to Clark County.  Here's the requisite reminder... you knew it was coming... let's all stay safe and remember to follow the Rules of the Road!

  • NEW STUMBLERS  May 27, 2006  We welcomed six new Stumblers and visitors.  Sorry, somehow we missed one in our group photo.

  • WELCOME NEW STUMBLER  April 22, 2006  Welcome new Stumbler Rhonda Morphew!  Rhonda lives and works in Winchester.  Rhonda cross trains with aerobics, weight lifting, and hiking.  She plans to join Stumbler Jenny Green this summer for a hike into the Grand Canyon.  Rhonda should serve as an able guide as she has done the Grand Canyon hike a couple of times before.

  • SPRING FLING  April 22, 2006  The annual Todds Road Stumblers Spring Fling was a great success.  Stumblers came together on this beautiful Spring morning to share breakfast eats, running stories and just plain ol' fun.  It was good to see Vernon Childers and Larry Brown in attendance after an extended absence.  Thanks to everyone who brought food to share or helped in some other way.

  • STUMBLERS TAKE ON BOSTON  April 17, 2006  Five Todds Road Stumblers ran the Boston Marathon today.  All finished with very respectable times.  Congratulations to them all!

  • WELCOME NEW STUMBLER  April 15, 2006  Shannon Means joined the Stumblers and ran 13 miles her first time out.  Shannon plans to run the Louisville mini and we think she's ready!  She lives in Winchester and during the week runs with relatively new Winchester Stumblers Jenny Green and Pashia Cowen.  In addition to improving her running fitness level, Shannon is getting in shape for backpacking a 100 mile section of the Appalachian Trail.

  • SPRING FLING  The annual Todds Road Stumblers Spring Fling will be April 22.  This is an event for all Stumblers, past and present, old and new.  Bring a breakfast/brunch item to share after the run.  Steve Olson will be making pancakes and there will be lots of other yummy things to eat.  Consider this reloading after the Boston marathon, or loading for the Louisville mini.

  • April 2, 2006  After a courageous battle with his illness, Van Quigley passed away at home this morning around 10 AM.  Local visitation will be Tuesday, April 4,  from 5:00-8:00 PM at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home at 3421 Harrodsburg Road .  Burial will be in Atlanta later this week.  Survivors include Van's wife, Julia, Matt (19), Nick (17) and Catherine (15).  Expressions of sympathy can be sent to:

Van was a regular at Todds Road and always had a ready smile and an encouraging word to say to others.  He was an excellent runner and earned his membership in the 500 Mile Club on August 28, 2004.  Please remember his family in your prayers.

  • April 1, 2006  About 20 Stumblers stayed after their runs to participate in our annual roadside cleanup.  31 bags of litter were collected along Colby, Becknerville, Basin Springs, and Combs Ferry Roads.  This was a community service project to show the Clark County community our appreciation for running through their beautiful countryside.  Clark County pays a bounty for each bag of litter that was collected; the Stumblers donated this money back to the Clark County Domestic Violence unit.  For photos of the litter cleanup effort click here.  Thanks to Judy Collins for baking the wonderful coffee cake.

  • April 1, 2006  We welcomed five new Stumblers on this glorious Spring day!

  • March 25, 2006  Thanks to everyone that participated in the Spring cleaning of the clubhouse.  Judy2 provided this in-depth report of the work.

"Everyone that stayed to help clean did a bang up job!  They pulled furniture from the walls and vacuumed behind and under.  We took pictures down and rearranged.  Ed Dove and Chuck cleaned out the refrigerator and scrubbed the shelves.  Marty and Tom McCullough cleaned out the kitchen closet.  John Benson cleaned out the front closet.  Jim Kurz cleaned the side room, Paula cleaned all the inside windows and John Gostomski cleaned all the outside windows.  Barry and I cleaned out all the paper (stuff) from the drawers and cabinets.  I brought home all the pictures and important historical papers to put into a scrapbook.  Lynn Phillips, Judy Collins, and Phil cleaned upstairs.  I scrubbed the stairs and started cleaning the wood work – Terry Ringle picked up where I left off on the wood work.  Jon Walker and Tom McC cleaned out the trophy case and dusted the trophies and pictures in the case.

I was so proud of everyone – they all chipped in.  I think what was more amazing was that most of these guys had just run 15 – 20 miles and they came in warmed up a bit and then started cleaning.  You know they were tired and there legs were probably jelly!  But they pitched right in!

The place looks great and I am sorry that I didn’t have my camera!  There would’ve been some good shots.  We could’ve used the pictures to blackmail the guys, because they said they didn’t want their wives to hear they had been cleaning."

And Barry Collins reported "Most runners stayed after running and helped do a much needed cleanup and renovation of the clubhouse. Everything from window cleaning, cobweb removal to throwing out junk that has accrued over the last 30 years. It looks much better!

We owe thanks to Jon W, Don N, Ron M, Paula, Lynn , Jim K, Terry R, John B, John G, Marty, Judy 1, Judy 2, Phil, Ed, Chuck, Barry and Tom Mc.  A special thanks to Tom Mc, for using his truck to take away a load of garbage after cleaning and for donating some plastic containers to put the paper supplies in.  Also a special thanks to Judy1 for bringing homemade banana, pumpkin bread, and brownies to enjoy after the cleanup."

If you helped and we missed your name we apologize.  If you weren't able to help last Saturday, you can make up for it this Saturday by helping with our annual roadside cleanup.  See you there!

  • March 18, 2006  WE HAVE HEAT!  Thanks to the continuing generosity of the "Original, Old Stumbler", Alex Campbell, the clubhouse has a nice new wall mounted heater.  The heater was much appreciated on this brisk 24 deg. morning.  Although many of today's Stumblers haven't met Alex, they have been the recipient of his generosity time and time again.  It is through him that the clubhouse, the t-shirts, the coffee and donuts, and practically everything about the Stumblers is made possible.  THANK YOU ALEX!

  • March 18, 2006  Paula Heron and Scott Fleming are the two newest Stumblers.  Paula is originally from South Africa and is a Physiology grad student at UK.  Scott hails from Louisville but attended UK and is now an architect working in Lexington.  Make sure to say hello to them the next time you see them.

  • March 11, 2006  Welcome new Stumblers Kevin Moody and Pashia Cowen, both coincidentally from Clark County.  Kevin is a familiar face to many Stumblers, having visited at the clubhouse with his dad, Wes, many times over the years.  However, until now Kevin has never run with the Stumblers and finally agreed to do so after his dad cajoled him into it by saying he didn't think he could run six miles.  He ran seven miles and finished ahead of his father.  Pashia was brought out by relatively new Stumbler Jenny Green and easily ran 13 miles her first time out.  We hope to see Pashia and Kevin back soon and often.

  • From time to time we will publish a profile on a Stumbler, both old and new.  Scroll down to Items of Interest below and click on Get to Know.  Check out the interview with long time Stumbler and Grand Poobah, Martin Ginocchio.

  • March 4, 2006  Welcome to Adam Jonas who joined us for the first time.  Adam was brought out by John Unger.

  • March 4, 2006  When the furnace is out, who you gonna call...Richard and Tom, that's who.  The clubhouse was cold and two technically minded Stumblers decided to see what they could see.  Alas, they weren't able to fix the furnace but we hope to have it fixed by this Saturday.

  • Feb. 25, 2006  CONGRATULATIONS to Chuck McQueen in completing his 500 Miles!  Chuck ran 10 miles on this beautiful morning to hit an even 500.  The requisite celebration was held.  Seems like Chuck was on target to hit this milestone one rainy morning several weekends ago and was halfway to the clubhouse with Ed Dove when Ed suggested they turn around and go back home, lest they catch a cold running in the rain.  Ed, there's a word for guys like you.... but I can't remember what it is.

  • Feb. 25, 2006  Was that Kevin Dicken back out on the course!?  It was!  Welcome back Kev!  Kevin endured a constant barrage of insults from Don Nicholson on his first Stumbler run in a while, but managed a few zingers of his own.  Those running with Jim Thornton thought they heard a dog whining, but no, it was just Jim complaining about his aches and pains.  This must have been one of the larger groups in a while, 35 cars were parked around the clubhouse.  Click here for photos.

  • Feb. 25, 2006  Welcome Jenny Green!  Jenny is from Winchester and had been hearing from other Winchesterites about what a fun time it is running with the Stumblers.  Jenny came out and ran the 6 mile loop....twice.  She must have had a good time, her previous furthest distance run had been 7 miles.

  • Feb. 11, 2006  Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...  This past Saturday the hardy runners that ventured forth enjoyed a beautiful winter morning, with a new fallen snow making the scenery even more spectacular.  Clark County road crews had plowed the roads of most of the snow, leaving the roads only wet.  Several Stumblers got into the spirit of playing in the snow and made a "Snow Stumbler".  Click here for photos of the fun morning.

  • Feb. 11, 2006 Tom Scally even came out, his first visit in almost two years.  Tom is back in town and we'll be seeing more of him from now on.

  • On Feb. 4, 2006 we had a surprise visit from Stumbler Dan Wells (500 Club 12-15-84)who has lived in the Washington D.C. area for the last 11 years.  Dan came out with Jim Kurz and braved a steady winter rain to run with us.  Dan plans to retire from his position with the Social Security Administration in the next few months and plans to move back to Lexington.  We look forward to seeing Dan more regularly in the near future.

  • Feb. 4, 2006 - Karen and Tom McCullough are expecting a son and are trying to choose a name for him.  They have been getting lots of help with names from Stumblers, we're partial to Rudolf Poulan.  If you would like to suggest a name, please let Karen and Tom know, they'll really appreciate it.

  • Congratulations to marathoners Carol Miles and John Gostomski.  Carol's 3:19:30 at the Marshall University Marathon on November 13 2005 earned her the 3rd woman overall spot.  John ran 2:40:58 at the Kiawah Island Marathon on December 10, 2005 and was the 2nd overall finisher.  Way to go John and Carol!   Also at Kiawah Island, Terry Ringle finished 3rd in his age group, Steve Olson placed high in his, and Ron Mayer's training paid off for him.
